KVG Sportive Sunday 19th April

Seven Kent Velo Kids successfully completed the Kent Velo Girls Sportive today.  Between them they clocked up a total of 220 miles.  A great show of effort, determination and skilful bike riding.

Saturday 18th April

Glorious sunny day for Youth Ride, no rain, no punctures so unsurprisingly smiles all round.  We all headed out on our "Round the Reservoir" loop and made good progress to the tip of Bough Beech.  We split there with Hope and Luke continuing back to Hildenborough while Ellen, Calvin, Luke and Toni did the "Ide Hill and North Toys" loop.  The routes are 16 and 24 miles respectively.  Great riding from everybody, looking forward to an ice cream this afternoon. :-)

Saturday 11th April 2015

Youth Ride - Tour of the Reservoir. While some of the pro women riders were involved in racing we were doing our very own tour of Bough Beech.  We were low on numbers so tackled one of our simple favourites.  Hope and Claire set of five minutes before the rest of us and obviously made good progress as we didn't catch sight of them until we turned off the Causeway.  Good timing from them as we obliged with a tow before reaching the downhill section.  By this time the rain was heavy so we sandwiched Hope up front and did what the KVK do best; pace it back school.  There was limited enthusiasm for adding a loop, so we called it a day and agreed to meet up later for the Penshurt Ride.  At 16 miles plus a couple home it seems that was Hope's longest ride, good to see Luke back in the saddle and riding well.

Damian fixing Luke's puncture ;-)
Penshurst Trail. It was sunny and warm when we met up at Tonbridge Park.  The usual crowd plus Freddie and Robin.  Conditions were fairly dry, with just a few muddy puddles left from earlier in the day.  Polly tried hard to avoid these (she wanted to keep her grey shorts clean).  We made good progress towards Penshurst and regrouped at the bottom of the hill and handicapped the riders for their climb to the top. I don't know who got their first but I definitely arrived last, beaten by a last minute sprint from Freddie.  A quick jelly stop before we headed back down.  We dropped Freddie and Robin off at Hayesden for an ice cream and then headed back to Tonbridge.

Next Week: Saturday 18th April
Youth Ride: 9.30am Road Bikes Only
Ride Out: Penshurst Trail, meet at Tonbridge Park 1.45pm for a 2pm start.  Return 3.30pm - 4pm

Saturday 28th March - Easter Fun for Kent Velo Kids

Eight riders tackled Conker Hill and the Col de Coldharbour, as well as playing on the pump track at Westwood.

Later that day we ran a Go Ride session at Stocks Green School.  We finished the session with an egg and spoon relay race before the Easter Bunny made an appearance with a basketful of eggs.  This was our last Go Ride session this term.  Well done to everyone who has ridden this term, we look forward to seeing you again in the Summer.

Week Commencing 17th March 2015

This was a busy week for me as it was KVG training camp, so I was riding or doing something bike related every day.

Tuesday saw the KVK working on their roller skills again.  We got the music system working in the hall and set about mastering the world class warm up routine, as used by the pro's.

Concentrate.....................CRASH...............you get used to it after a while :-)

For our Youth Ride on Saturday morning, Helen from the KVG joined us as Damian was away on his track course.  Malcolm rode with us too and proved to have a very handy turn of speed for marshalling tricky junctions.  We kept is simple; Tour of the Reservoir plus a bit extra for the big wheels.  Great riding from everyone as usual.
